Introducing Gravel Burn

The Gravel Burn is an international gravel bike race that will take place from October 26 to November 1.

2025 in South Africa. The seven-day event will cover approximately 850km through varied landscapes, starting in the coastal forests of Knysna, crossing the majestic semi-arid desert of the Great Karoo, and finishing in style at the Shamwari Private Game Reserve, where participants will be greeted by iconic African wildlife, including the Big Five.

A breathtaking journey

The Gravel Burn route offers a variety of terrain and breathtaking views. Riders will begin in the lush forests of Knysna, progress through the arid expanses of the Great Karoo, and conclude their journey in the African bush, offering an immersive experience in the heart of the South African wilderness.

A first-class organization

Founded by Kevin Vermaak, also the creator of the famous Cape Epic, the Gravel Burn promises exemplary organisation. Participants will benefit from specially designed camps, called "Burn Camps", offering comfortable individual tents, catering highlighting local Karoo cuisine, as well as technical and medical support services throughout the race.

Preparation and anticipation

Participating in such an event requires rigorous physical preparation and well-planned logistics. Registration opens on 3 December 2024, and it is essential to register quickly, as places are limited. In addition, additional options, such as post-race safaris in Shamwari or pre-race accommodation in Knysna, are available to enrich the experience.

Gravel riding is growing in popularity, combining elements of road cycling and mountain biking, offering increased flexibility and adventure. Events such as the Gravel Burn are shining a spotlight on this growing discipline, attracting riders from all over the world. Recently, competitions such as TRAKA in Spain have also gained in notoriety, reflecting the global craze for gravel riding.
